Concussions 2

Forgot to post another excellent learning tool as it relates to concussion or TBI. The Ontario Hockey League (OHL) has developed a short- 5 minute, video piece that reviews the common signs, symptoms and dispels some of the myths around concussions.
you can view it here- http://www.ontariohockeyleague.com/video/index/id/f6faf8c90a80a57a86d34682c710feff

Concussion

Concussions or Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI), are an on-going issue in sport and activity. There are many misconceptions as to what a TBI is, how quickly different individuals recover, and a number of other issues. Dr Charles Tator and his Think First organization are working to improve the prevention and management of TBI in sport. It is a very good site for information relating to TBI. Think First

Exciting news

I am trying to re-start the blog.
Our exciting news relates to Laura Sylvah, our Football Therapist, being hired on a one year, full time contract. This will improve access to our clinical services over the spring term as well as the winter 2012 term.
I hope to update the blog on a weekly basis and include current topics in the news as they relate to varsity athletics, therapy, etc.
Please let me know if you have any comments or suggestions in terms of topics.

Training Camps

Well it's that time of year yet again. The summer is officially over in the varsity therapy world. Student trainers, if you are in Waterloo and available to help out with another team please let me know as we can always use extra help at this time of the year. If you have KIN classmates who might be interested in becoming student trainers please have them email me at rwburns@uwaterloo.ca . Requirements initially are current first aid and CPR certifications. Taking KIN 140L in the winter is also strongly recommended but people can begin prior to taking the course.
